The Housing Champions in positions of influence

The Housing Champions in positions of influence

The Housing Champions in positions of influence

We are excited to announce that ATM’s Housing Champion Ikran Ahmed has been placed on the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities’ Social Housing Quality Resident Panel

This panel was set up by the government to boost conditions for tenants across the country. The panel members directly share their views with the government about their planned approach to driving up social housing quality. The UK has faced a massive housing crisis where the most vulnerable residents have been living in unsuitable housing for extended periods of time, unaware of the strength their voices hold.  Authentic change cannot be made without scrutiny and advocacy for marginalised groups. The diverse panel members who are also social housing residents will inform government practices.

Using the range of skills and knowledge that she developed as a beneficiary of ATM’s Housing Champions programme; Ikran will represent her lived experiences on the panel to amplify the BME voice in social housing and push for improved conditions for those living in social housing. Having done community work for 10 years, Ikran has a well-rounded grasp of the community needs and requirements, particularly those around housing. We look forward to seeing how Ikran influences this role. Ikran shares her experience:

“My experience so far has been enjoyable and I am acquiring the knowledge needed. I am grateful to the Anti-Tribalism Movement for building my confidence to join the Social Housing panel and directly influence change. I’m excited to be part of the panel as this will give me the opportunity to directly share the views of these underrepresented communities on the approach of the department to driving up the quality of social housing.”

As part of the Housing Champions programme, we place participants in placements to enable them to influence change on issues that are important — while at the same time enabling the participants to implement their learnings.
